Local care agencies are outraged and confused at the possibility of sex offenders working in the community. It has been confirmed that sex offenders will now be able to apply, paying a small fee of sixty five pounds, to redeem their sins. The sex offenders that are successful will be transferred to a separate, ‘good’ list. The police have the power to determine who is a risk to our society.
One agency manager in Brighton, Lisa French, has serious concerns. ‘I am worried that I won’t be informed that potential employees were on the sex offenders list.’ Lisa feels that not only the police should have the right to make this discrimination, and is horrified by the change. ‘A permanent sex offenders list was in place to safe-guard are service users’. Her co-worker, Sharon Lacey fears specifically for domiciliary care. ‘Homecare is when vulnerable adults are at their most defenceless, because carers are un-supervised.’
When it comes to the most vulnerable in our society the Protection of Vulnerable Adults (POVA) has been previously working with the Criminal Record Bureau to insure people like this could not have the opportunity to re-offend. This change once again endangers our most vulnerable.
